STUDENT ENROLLMENT
Students must be residents of Prince George’s County and have a valid student identification number in order to enroll in a public charter school and its lottery. For the purposes of enrollment, a child placed in a foster home in Prince George’s County whose enrollment has been authorized by the Department of Pupil Accounting and School Boundaries may be treated as a county resident.
APPLICATION PROCESS
CMIT accepts enrollment applications for vacant seats through PGCPS’ Charter School Office, during the open lottery application period from the first week in November to the last Friday in January. Specific deadlines for public charter school student lottery applications for the upcoming or following school year can be found at lottery.pgcps.org. During the open application period, parents should consider applying to all public charter schools of interest to ensure that all opportunities to be selected in the charter school lotteries have been exercised. Lottery applications can be made by visiting PGCPS Charters and Contract Schools website (http://lottery.pgcps.org). CMIT will not be accepting any applications as all the applicants need to apply PGCPS directly. Make sure to select CMIT as your first choice. All deadlines are marked by 5:00 PM.
PLACEMENT
Students who gain admittance through the public charter school random lottery will receive a placement offer letter. The placement offer letter must provide parents with instructions for responding to the offer, the deadline for which to respond to the offer by accept or decline, alert for failing to respond, and enrollment and registration procedures. Failure to accept the placement by the deadline will be considered a decline of the placement.
SIBLING PREFERENCE
Charter schools may give siblings preference of current students over other new students if space allows. The policy for sibling preference must be made known annually as part of the open enrollment and lottery application process. Sibling is defined as any natural child, adopted child, stepchild or legal foster child actually living and residing in the same household of the parent/guardian who has completed the charter school lottery application. Cousins, nieces, nephews and unrelated children sharing the same address with the applicant are not considered siblings. Sibling Preference is based upon space availability and does not guarantee enrollment for each sibling.
TRANSPORTATION & BUS SERVICES
CMIT Academy does not provide bus or transportation services to enrolled students. Parents are responsible for securing transportation to and from school.
OPEN HOUSES
CMIT has scheduled information sessions and open houses for the parents applying CMIT. Only the applications that are made between the mentioned time frame will be considered.
