PGCPS has a partnership with Prince George’s Community College and Bowie State University, however students may also take courses at other Maryland Institutions. For students who apply through the PGCPS Dual Enrollment Program, tuition is paid for by PGCPS, leaving students only responsible for the cost of university fees and books. Students who receive Free or Reduced Meals will also have the cost of fees and books covered.
DUAL ENROLLMENT ELIGIBILITY
Students may begin taking courses starting the summer after their 10th grade year if they meet the eligibility requirements determined by each institution.
Students may meet eligibility requirements through one of two avenues:
- 2.5 Weighted GPA with qualifying SAT/ACT or Accuplacer Scores
- 3.0 Unweighted GPA without without SAT/ACT or Accuplacer Scores
PRINCE GEORGE’S COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Types of Courses Offered
- Online – Students taking an online class can access course content 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and have discussions with their instructors and fellow learners using online platforms such as Blackboard. Deadlines and due dates will be set for students.
- Remote – Students that take a remote class will meet online synchronously using an online platform such as Blackboard Collaborate Ultra web conference platform. Classes meet at scheduled times with set deadlines and due dates. Students will access learning materials, assignments, and participate in discussions online.
- Hybrid – Students taking a hybrid class will engage in a combination of online/remote and face-to-face instruction. Students will complete their work assignments, discussions, research, and projects online at a flexible pace with the benefit of some scheduled face-to-face class time with professors and fellow students.
- Traditional Face-to-Face – Students will meet synchronously face to face at a designated time on one of the many Prince George’s Community College campuses.
How to Apply
Students must apply through the PGCC DualEnroll system by the designated deadline. Students apply for Summer and Fall courses in April/May. Students apply for Spring courses in October/November. Completed applications include: online application, course selection, parent approval, new student orientation, and SAT/ACT score report (if requested by PGCC). What Courses Should I Take?
If you would like individual advising about course offerings, please schedule a meeting with Ms. Gaudette or attend an Information Session (offered by PGCPS, PGCC, and CMIT). You may also review the following document for Recommended Courses Based on Areas of Interest.
What is the Difference between Dual Credit versus Dual Enrollment?
Dual Enrollment is ANY course you take through a college while you are in high school. Dual Credit Courses are specific courses that have been approved to earn credit at both the college level and the high school level. To earn Dual Credit at PGCC, please select a course from the PGCC Dual Credit Course List, which is updated annually.
For eligible students, Dual Credit courses can even be used to substitute for required courses such as World History (HST1320), Environmental Science (BIO1110), Senior English (EGL1010), Junior or Senior Math (MAT1140, MAT1250, or MAT2410, and more), etc.
For more information about Dual Enrollment Replacement, make sure to meet with your Counselor prior to applying for Summer and Fall courses.
PGCC Eligibility using Test Scores
Students with a 2.5 weighted GPA or higher must meet one of the criteria for Reading, Writing, or Mathematics Readiness using the Accuplacer, SAT, or ACT to become eligible for coursework at PGCC.
For a list of scores from each assessment that would qualify you for Reading, Writing, and/or Mathematics Readiness, please refer to the PGCC Dual Credit List.
PGCC Eligibility based on GPA Only
Students with a 3.0 Unweighted GPA or higher without Accuplacer/SAT/ACT Scores qualify for the following courses:
Juniors (including the summer between 10th and 11th grade)
- Courses on the Dual Credit list that indicate “ANY” as their Proficiency and/or Prerequisite Requirement (Most Popular: COM1010, HST1320, PSY1010, SOC1010, BMT1010, ART1570, HLE1150, and INT1010
Seniors (including the summer between 11th and 12th grade)
- Courses on the Dual Credit list that indicate “ANY” or “READING” as their Proficiency and/or Prerequisite Requirement
- CMIT Rising Seniors are eligible to take EGL1010 in the Fall of their Senior Year as long as they have completed English 11 successfully
- CMITR Rising Seniors are eligible to take Math courses up to MAT1350 in the Summer prior to or Fall of their Senior Year as long as they have completed Algebra 2 successfully (to take a Math course beyond MAT1350, SAT/Accuplacer Scores must be sent to PGCC by the student

How to Apply
Step 1:
- Read the BSU/PGCPS Dual Enrollment Handbook (PDF)
- BSU/PGCPS Dual Enrollment Application PART 1: LINK COMING SOON
- Complete the PART 2 Application: LINK COMING SOON
- After completing this form, there will be a link to an additional appointment sign up.
- Course selection must be completed by the designated deadline each application period.
- After the deadline, Counselors will receive the list of courses applied for by their students for the approval process.
- If students are denied from courses that they applied to (on the basis of eligibility), they will not have an opportunity to reapply that application period, so it is strongly recommended that students meet with their Counselor prior to submitting their Application Forms – as they cannot be resubmitted.
Step 2:
- Students must request their transcript through ScribOrder prior to their appointment with Bowie State University.
- Request copies of any placement scores (Accuplacer, SAT/ACT) prior to their appointment with Bowie State University.
- Students should send their transcript and scores to Mr. Isaac at Bowie State University via email (jisaac@bowiestate.edu).
- Schedule an appointment with Mr. Isaac (the Director for Continuing Education) to complete the Admissions and Registration Process.
- New students in the Dual Enrollment program should review the Orientation Presentation (pdf).

Bowie State Eligibility
- Students with a 2.5 or higher Weighted GPA are only eligible for courses using qualifying Accuplacer or SAT/ACT Scores
- Students with a 3.0 or higher Unweighted GPA are eligible for basic courses at the university.
- Juniors (including the summer between 10th and 11th grade) without scores are eligible for courses such as:
- COMM101, COMM103, COSC112, ANTH102, GEOG101, HIST114, HIST115, PHIL101, PSYC101, and SOCI101
- Seniors (including the summer between 11th and 12th grade) without scores are eligible for the courses listed above as well as ENGL101 (as long as English 11 has been successfully completed) and Math courses (as long as Algebra 2 has been successfully completed).
- Note: Math course placement is made based on GPA and Grades by Mr. Isaac within your Registration meeting.
- Juniors (including the summer between 10th and 11th grade) without scores are eligible for courses such as:
- Note: Bowie State course requirements are not published online. Please work with your Counselor to determine appropriate courses based on your GPA, Scores, and/or Interests prior to submitting your application and setting up/attending your Interview/Intake Meeting with Bowie State.

From the PGCPS Dual Enrollment Page: “Students are able to attend any Maryland public college or university. Prior to enrolling in other Maryland institutions, students must complete the PGCPS online Intent to Enroll form by the general Dual Enrollment deadline date indicated in the document. In addition, a Dual Enrollment application for the college or university of interest must be submitted to that institution along with any required supplemental information. (The Intent to Enroll form deadline may be before the institution’s application deadline) Below are some of our MD institution’s Dual Enrollment websites and applications for reference.”
How to Enroll
- Complete the online PGCPS Intent to Enroll form
- Complete a Dual Enrollment application for the desired institution and provide proof of application to your Professional School Counselor
Note: Each institution has a unique application process (including deadlines, course eligibility requirements, etc.). Students should self-advocate and contact the Office of Admission at that institution for more information about their Dual Enrollment application process.
How to Get Dual Credit at Other Maryland Institutions
From the PGCPS Dual Enrollment Page: “Students wishing to receive dual credit for courses not on existing Dual Credit lists or courses from a MD institution other than Bowie State University and Prince George’s Community College must submit an online request. Requests with uploaded syllabus must be completed 30 days prior to the start date of the course for approval.”
