Two Week Virtual Summer Workshop

The Virtual Two Week CMIT Summer Workshop Program for 9th graders was a HUGE success! Thank you to all the 9th graders who participated in the program. They worked on strengthening their MAD math skills to be CMIT ready for fall with Mr. Mirza and he provided them with some new tools to add their to their already growing toolbox. There were games played, problems solved and most importantly a chance to see each other before school starts.

In English, Ms. O’Donnell tried to alleviate some of the bad stereotypes on essay writing and provide students with a foundation for writing better essays as they enter 9th grade. She showed us how NOT to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (ask your student about this) which was a lesson on providing detail in writing. She showed us the middle of a movie without providing the introduction or ending of the movie to illustrate the importance of a strong introduction and conclusion. Students used Neil Gaiman’s short story “How to Talk to Girls at a Party” as the subject for the two weeks.

All in all, 88 9th graders registered for the program and 64 attended. Thank you to the students who participated and took time out of their summer to get as CMIT ready as possible before we return to school. Mr. Mirza and Ms. O’Donnell are looking forward to seeing you back in the building!!
